Rock Lake Invitational Tournaments
In 1964, Lazy Lee’s Resort was opened for business on Table Rock Lake by the Brokaw family of Granite City, IL. This started a tradition of metro-east St. Louis anglers and their families coming to Table Rock for great fishing and other outdoor activities. As the decades rolled on, Lazy Lee’s has seen new ownership but the Granite City connection has remained strong.

The Steel City Bassmasters was formed in 1989 with a core group of those Granite City/Table Rock anglers who had a desire for friendly fishing competition that included their favorite southwest Missouri lake.
Two annual Table Rock invitational events were added to the club’s schedule and quickly became the most anticipated events of the Steel City season. From the start, the idea of an invitational tournament format was established to open the field to other St. Louis area fishermen wanting to discover this outstanding fishery. Through this format, our hope was to expand participation in the tournament and to eventually grow the bass club in the process.
Our members fish in other larger Table Rock tournaments but appreciate competing twice a year against their peers in the Steel City events. This “peer” concept has kept the Steel City/Table Rock tournaments strong and we reserve the right to refuse entry to those individuals who fall outside of that ideal. We certainly don’t limit participation to St. Louis area fishermen, but welcome individuals who travel to Table Rock Lake to experience the deep, clear water challenge that this fishery provides.
Steel City has now reached a milestone of 20-years in operation and the Table Rock tournaments remain as our premier events. Some of our long-time members have now retired and relocated to the Branson area and the Steel City invitational events give us the opportunity to keep in close contact with them.
The Table Rock invitational tournaments have expanded through the years to include pre-tournament seminars from local professional tournament anglers and guides. These events have become family affairs with multiple generations of anglers bringing their families for a relaxing vacation in Ozark country. Catered meals after the tournament are also provided for the contestants and their families.

Stacey King shares some tips about "The Rock" |
Lazy Lee’s Resort provides the ideal location for these invitational events. The wide open setting provides ample parking for our rigs, plenty of dock space, and comfortable accommodations. There is an atmosphere at the resort that promotes getting together as a group to enjoy a good fishing story by the fireside.
We hope that everyone who joins us to fish the Table Rock invitational tournaments enjoys a fun, relaxing time. This group will continue to follow the original concepts that have made these tournaments the cornerstone events of the Steel City Bassmasters.
